Ulan Bator ( UB) is, like every town, shaped by it's history. You'll find crumbing flatapartments and old state factory's from what's left of the Communism. Between the flat buildings you sometimes can spot a yir, the original nomad tent. In other areas you'll find slumbs. More than half of all Mongolians are less than 19 years old. A lot of children are wandering in the streets and sleep underneath them in the drains. Mongolia's medical and other social welfare programs are slowly undergoing change due to the collapse of Communism. The content and practice of Mongolian education similarly is in transition.
